Las Muñecas, Friends of Elementary Institute of Science is a fund raising society of African American women, founded in 1956 by Quincella Kimbrough. The women of Las Muņecas contributed thousands of dollars per year to benefit Children's Home Society. In 2002, Las Muñecas members voted to change their affiliation to an agency where the dollars would directly impact the children of San Diego County. They proudly selected Elementary Institute of Science.
Las Muñecas has generously donated approximately $10,000 each year to its charity. They are very proud to be affiliated with Elementary Institute and share their dollars with such a worthy cause.
One of the major fund raising events that Las Muñecas sponsors is the Ebony Fashion Fair. The show is a traveling fashion extravaganza that donates a portion of their proceeds to charities. At the request of Las Muñecas, the show came to San Diego in 1959 and they have proudly continued their sponsorship of this exciting event each year.
